Lead Metrology Technician
Non-Exempt position
I: Job Summary
Lead Metrology Technician is responsible for the on-time execution of calibration activities to ensure proper measurement accuracy while adhering to applicable GXP regulations, FDA, USP and ISPE guidelines and practices. Responsible for performing scheduled and unscheduled calibrations on process and laboratory equipment using prescribed standard operating procedures. The Lead is proficient in the calibration of temperature, pressure, weight, speed, gas-analyzing, conductivity, pH and environmental monitoring instruments in a GxP environment. Lead Metrology Technician is a self-starter who works unsupervised, leads and trains junior Metrology team members, and maintains high attention to detail. The Lead is seen as a Metrology subject matter expert and leader in the field.
II: Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the calibration and adjustment of equipment to specified tolerances using prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer manuals.
- Proficient in the calibration of RTDs, pressure gauges, conductivity and pH meters, environmental monitoring systems, differential pressure transmitters, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, etc.
- Proficient in the calibration of process equipment to include bioreactors, mixers, autoclaves, differential pressure transmitters, etc.
- Proficient in the calibration of utilities to include instruments on WFI skids, RO/DI skids, chill water, boilers, etc.
- Extensive experience using calibration standards, such as RTDs, dry blocks, oil baths, digital multimeters, Coriolis flow meters, standard solutions, and pneumatic and hydraulic pressure/vacuum calibrators.
- Able to adjust and align instruments to maintain functionality and accuracy utilizing equipment manuals and manufacturer procedures.
- When applicable, perform repairs of instrumentation necessary for maintaining production equipment, laboratory equipment and utilities.
- Utilize and maintain secondary and working calibration standards. Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly state.
- Maintain detailed records of calibration activities and ensure all documentation meets quality and GxP requirements.
- Serve as a technical resource to customers in the resolution of complex Metrology problems and technical issues.
- Assist in analyzing new equipment to determine calibration requirements.
- Assist in qualification of equipment as needed.
- May be responsible for tasking other team members with responsibilities and performing on-the-job training.
- Interacts effectively with peers, internal customers, and management to achieve desired outcomes.
- Possess a positive attitude and the desire to continuously learn.
- Identify and suggest initiatives for continuous improvement of process, quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Seek to improve the overall function of the department by anticipating problems by analyzing trends and initiating appropriate actions to eliminate them.
- Perform work safely and in compliance with EHS requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
III: Education, Experience & Skills
- 6+ years in the field of Metrology with 2+ years in a GMP environment.
- Certified Calibration Technician preferred.
- Experienced with pharmaceutical equipment, facilities, standards and processes.
- Good leadership and decision-making skills.
- Adept at using critical thinking to solve technical problems.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Products.
- Skilled working in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50.00 – $60.00 per hour
