Maryland Life Sciences
The Maryland Life Sciences (MDLS) division of Maryland Tech Council (MTC) is a collaborative community, actively engaged in building stronger life science companies by supporting the efforts of our individual members who are saving and improving lives through innovation. MDLS is a regional association for the life sciences community. We support our member companies who are driving innovation through advocacy, education, workforce development, cost savings programs and connecting entrepreneurial minds.
MDLS represents biotechnology, clinical and research data, therapeutic, genetic, medical device, pharmaceutical and service companies that support Maryland’s thriving industry. The valuable resources we provide to our members help them reach their full potential making Maryland a global leader in the life sciences industry.
Why Maryland
Maryland has proven to be a leader in the biotech industry and the State has a lot of firsts in its history: first to map the human genome, first to develop a rapid test for Ebola, first to create an FDA-approved blood test for colon cancer, and first in NIH research and development contract awards. And, according to the Washington Post, the State has proudly played an “outsized role in the worldwide hunt for a coronavirus vaccine.” The rapidly growing biotech ecosystem secured the fourth spot in GEN’s annual ranking of the nation’s top 10 biopharma clusters.
If you’re considering a career in biotechnology, then clearly Maryland is where you want to be! The industry offers multiple career paths as you progress from entry level to senior level positions. A career in biotechnology means that you can work in a burgeoning field for a research organization, regulatory agency, or for-profit company.
