Job Title:
WordPress / WooCommerce Web Developer (Contract or Part-Time)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced WordPress/WooCommerce web developer to upgrade and optimize our existing shopping cart system to a modern, stable, and user-friendly WooCommerce-based eCommerce platform. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in WordPress, WooCommerce customization, and performance optimization, with attention to clean UI/UX and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Migrate and/or upgrade the existing shopping cart to WordPress + WooCommerce
- Configure WooCommerce products, categories, attributes, and variations
- Customize WooCommerce templates, checkout flow, and cart behavior as needed
- Ensure compatibility with existing themes (or assist with theme refinement)
- Optimize site performance, security, and responsiveness
- Configure payment gateways, tax settings, shipping rules, and email notifications
- Ensure proper handling of digital and/or physical products
- Troubleshoot plugin conflicts and resolve WooCommerce-related issues
- Implement best practices for SEO, accessibility, and scalability
- Provide documentation and basic training upon project completion
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience developing with WordPress and WooCommerce
- Strong knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Experience with WooCommerce hooks, filters, and custom plugins
- Familiarity with popular WooCommerce plugins (payment gateways, shipping, caching, security)
- Experience migrating data (products, customers, orders) between platforms
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Blocksy Pro, and Gutenberg-based themes
- Familiarity with WooCommerce CSS customization and image handling
- Experience supporting scientific, technical, or B2B eCommerce sites
- Knowledge of performance tools (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed, Redis, etc.)
- Experience with staging/production workflows and backups
Project Scope (Example)
- Upgrade existing shopping cart to WooCommerce
- Standardize product layout and thumbnails
- Improve checkout experience and cart reliability
- Ensure mobile-friendly design
- Final QA testing before launch
