Salary Range $80–$120k

We’re hiring a Prototyping Technician. This isn’t a “push the button” shop role – you’re a force-multiplier. Help the engineers be more effective, build better prototypes, reduce risk for our customers, and iterate designs quickly. At Root3 Labs, prototypes are how we reduce risk. They’re decision-making tools that help our engineers and our customers understand what
actually
works before committing time, money, or effort.

We’re looking for a hands-on builder for our in-house workshop, working on high-stakes medical, aerospace, and defense R&D programs. This is for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and likes figuring things out when the answer isn’t obvious. You’ll be working on things that have never been built before. Never be bored again.

If you’ve ever enjoyed:

  • Modifying a design because “this will work better”
  • Figuring it out without perfect instructions
  • Working in a shop where learning and momentum matter

You’ll probably like it here.

Root3 Labs is a professional engineering firm that provides hardware R&D for high-stakes device manufacturers under a deadline. Our engineers turn problems into prototypes and prototypes into finished products. Our facility includes an extensive fabrication workshop to allow quick design-prototype-test cycles using a variety of materials, equipment, and techniques.

Salary range: $65k – 80k depending upon experience. Benefits package includes healthcare, retirement matching, profit sharing, short-term disability, continuous training & development, flexibility, plus personal use of our sweet prototyping Workshop. This is a full-time, hourly, in-person position.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Workshop equipment & tools
  • Prototype fabrication from engineer’s designs
  • Provide design input and modify parts for better functionality
  • Perform and document prototype testing

Qualifications:

  • Experience with 3D printing, metalshop tools, CNC machining
  • Experience with soldering, wiring, and assembly
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Enjoy voiding warranties, DIY projects, & tinkering
  • Mechanical & electrical aptitude
  • High School or Vocational School
  • US Citizenship required (NISPOM)

In this role, we’re more interested in capabilities like independent problem solving, judgment, ability to adapt, and learning speed than the checklist of tools you’ve used. If you’re interested in the role, learn more about the company at https://www.root3labs.com.
